Friend of a Friend

I have always been
A friend of a friend
To my adoptive sister

Her friends she places first
Always dismissing my presence
If I was included, it was out of pity
If she felt so inclined

This has gone on for so many years
She knows just how to treat me
To belittle me in front of all

Even now, our golden years
She has the power to turn
My own boys against me
Making me a friend of a friend
To my own children
Someone that is not thought
twice about

LOST IN PARIS

I remember those chairs
Old Parisian men drinking wine
Or dark coffee
I traveled from New York to Belgium
Then a train to Paris
Rocking and rolling along the beautiful
Farmlands and villages between the two locations
All along the way with suite case and
Carrying blue and yellow sneaker roller skates
Over my shoulder
How I love to roller skate

I traveled with nine other want a be models
All hoping and praying to make it big
Each day was another adventure
All of us going in different directions
From the flat we rented for the month

On one afternoon, I set out in my roller skates
Not knowing the streets of Paris, but yet
Usually having a good sense of direction
I set off to explore the neighborhood

I found myself going around in circles
In front of those chairs in that café,
And on each revolution
The men applauded me
For I was jiggling all over
Because I was lost on the cobblestones of Paris

SUNRISE

 Awaken at sunrise
as the red mountains
exhaled the golden sun
as it plays within the creases
making faces it the shadows
of the rocks
creating another masterpiece
God has made, as I try to duplicate
this amazing sight... through painting
and fail, for tomorrow he will revise
the sunrise of today making it
yet another even more beautiful day

2012 THE FIRST SUNSET OF THE NEW YEAR

The first Sunset of the New Year.
Just Love the Colors!
The saying here is
God Created the Grand Canyon
But he lives in Sedona
I wait for God's painting lesson
Each night an original
Knowing I can never follow
A show like this!

Mindful writing prompt #27: Mantra

I Am Me 1/4/2012

I am me
I am me
I am me
No more being abused
emotionally
I am me
I am me
I am me
The actions of others
do not define me
I am me
I am me
I am me
The place I want to be
Is here and now
I am me
I am me
I am me
Where else can I be me?

Start building a river

“And by the way, everything in life is writable about if you have the outgoing guts to do it, and the imagination to improvise."
~ Sylvia Plath

THE GUTS
Writing has saved my soul
Throughout the many years
Yet the “Guts” to write
On taboo subjects
Makes me whisper
I am me!
Now I’ll show where
The truths, lies
From the beginning
Until now.

Strings and Strands

Strings and Strands                                               Voxpoetica Prompt 12-31-2011

I have been caught up in the strings
Tangled like a marionette
Someone else always knowing
Which ones to tug or pull on for my heart
Leaving strands of color swirling in my sight

Was it this Christmas or last
Where all the tree lights changed to only white

Christmas’s past, was filled with colored lights
And strands of popcorn, beads of multi colors
When the tree was finally trimmed and plugged in

The entire world tasted
The rainbows of Christmas
And kissed in New Year’s
          With peppermint breathe
